Watercolors

Most of my watercolors are lightly drawn in pencil onto very heavy cold press paper using my own photography for reference. I sometimes use local color as a guide, but quite often I let the composition dictate what color I choose to use. I am not as interested in the actual portrayal of the subject as I am a pleasing arrangement of colors and positive and negative space.

This painting is based on a photo I took while on a ferry ride from Alexandria,
VA to Georgetown, DC. I took the ride expressly for the purpose of
photography for a project I was working on. I have many more images I plan to paint from this trip.
